Respite Care

MCAR’s Respite Care program serves as an important resource for families, caregivers, and individuals. Our program provides families and caregivers a temporary break from their routine caregiving duties and challenges. Respite care can be for an hour, a day, a weekend, or up to a week.

Families use respite care when they want or need a short time-off from caregiving. Families use respite time for leisure or recreation, when they want to vacation or get away on their own. Families also use respite care in emergency situations or when they need to be away from home because of medical procedures, hospital stays, or personal business. Our respite care program is the answer to family' needing a temporary placement for their loved one.

Respite time is vital to a caregiver's emotional and physical well-being. It is restorative time away from a daily routine and is essential to families wanting to keep a loved one at home.

Time away from the daily routine is also important to an individual. Respite care offers “vacation” time when individuals can socialize with peers, enjoy new experiences, and learn to be more independent. Individuals enjoy their time away in a safe, secure, and comfortable environment and are cared for by trained professional staff.

Families can arrange for a MCAR respite care worker to stay in the individual’s home or for the individual to stay in MCAR’s respite care house, in one of our group homes, or in the home of one of MCAR’s qualified staff.
