Since 1952, MCAR, Inc. has provided quality, comprehensive services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. MCAR strives to assist these individuals to develop the skills necessary to function as vital members of the community while making their own choices about where they live, work, and recreate. MCAR’s programs include residential services, in-home family supports, vocational habilitation, socialization and recreational activities, job training, and job coaching. MCAR serves close to 500 people through these various programs and employs a staff of 150 people. MCAR is one of three subsidiaries owned by the Arc of Mercer County. MCAR's Adult Day Services provide prevocational services at two locations in Mercer County. Theprevocational program teaches vocational skills through hands-on work experiences such as packaging, sorting, collating, and other piece-rated subcontract work. Individuals are also given the opportunity to learn how to refinish furniture, build sign stands, and manufacture wooden pallets. The Community Employment program is a part of the prevocational service department. Daily living skills and alternative activitities are an important component of these programs. Home and Community Habilitative Aid services provided by MCAR, Inc. assist an individual in acquiring, retaining and developing skills in reaching their personal goals for independance. MCAR’s Residential Services department provides a variety of residential options for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These options are designed to assist these individuals in becoming as independent as possible and integrated into their communities. MCAR’s fifteen group homes provide a comfortable home living situation with twenty-four hour staff supervision. The Family Living program is foster care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that allows them to live in a family setting. The Respite Care program provides temporary care for families of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. MCAR’s Recreation Program offers opportunities for recreation, socialization, and personal growth for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through travel and leisure services. Our individuals participate in activities such as bowling, bocce, dances, visiting amusement parks, traveling to Florida, and attending concerts. These programs are designed to increase the individual’s self-confidence and expose them to new experiences.
