Autism Social Group

Teens and young adults with high functioning autism and Asperger’s syndrome meet every month at MCAR to simply have fun. They get together to socialize, battle each other in Wii games, work on computers, watch movies, or compare trading cards … and just be themselves, doing what interests them.

MCAR’s Autism Social Group is not a therapy group. It is a social group for individuals age 15 and older. Its purpose is to provide a safe, secure place where young adults can socialize, make friends, and have fun, without being judged.

We present young adults with autism a way to connect with others, build friendships, share interests, and enjoy themselves. Individuals are encouraged to bring activities that interest them or that they want to share with others.

We offer these activities, including snacks, at no cost to the individual. In this way, those who have little or no access to services are still able to participate.

The group meets the second Wednesday of every month at MCAR, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For more information, contact our Autism Social Group Coordinator at 724-981-2950 x 207.
